About:

I have drawn since I can remember - perhaps around 5 yrs old...the usual stuff - cars, planes, tanks etc. I grew up in Zandvoort, Holland, and it is there that I think my passion for art & architecture was born. As a kid, playing in the sand-dunes, I first experienced the mesmerising hulks of the WW2 German bunkers, that made up Hitler's Atlantic Wall. Whilst they are not classed as 'Brutalism', for me they are nothing but - brutal. Surely, they must have made their way into some of the mind's that first imposed the style of Brutalism upon architecture. So, 'raw concrete' has probably been hiding in my mind from a young age...I would however only start to experiment and create works in my forties. For many years I loved the idea of hanging a large mass/volume on your office or front room wall. And this sets the basis for my sculptures. My paintings are mostly from the mind and are mono-chromatic, which I feel suits the brutalness. Instagram: @grimski23 @jamesbradford23
